#10: New Taiwan. 呂秀蓮. Hosting. US-Israel. Czech missiles. Afghan dilemma. 07.7.2=1 11:30.

'It's time for a New Taiwan (Formosa) Nation.Facing Channenges of a New Millenium', by V...

"Dear All:

Taiwan needs to solve the ROC = Taiwan, or Taiwan = ROC (personally, I think both are wrong and are reason for being called as "trouble maker") issue before qualifying to form a new democratic civil government. This may be put in the referendum in the 2008 presidential election, for those chose to elect a Taiwan (Formosa) president instead of another imposter China (ROC) president, have a choice to pick one of the presidential candidates to be the new president of the new Taiwan (Formosa) democratic civil government. However, there must be a new name for the new Taiwan Nation (that probably could be decided later on by another referendum by the new civil government). If this new Taiwan Nation is recognized (let's say first by USA, then Canada, England, Japan,......particularly those had signed the SFPT), then the first president of the new Taiwan Nation could apply for membership to join the UN, WHO. Personally, I think there is no need to declare independence. The above is solely my own interpretation of the letter. I am also pasting my e-mail to Dr. J Tang. Again, it is my own interpretation. Just FYI. Please contribute your feedback. Thanks.

US-Israel:

'A Declaration of Independence from Israel', by Chris Hedges:
Published on Monday, July 2, 2007 by TruthDig.com

"Israel, without the United States, would probably not exist. The country came perilously close to extinction during the October 1973 war when Egypt, trained and backed by the Soviet Union, crossed the Suez and the Syrians poured in over the Golan Heights. Huge American military transport planes came to the rescue. They began landing every half-hour to refit the battered Israeli army, which had lost most of its heavy armor. By the time the war was over, the United States had given Israel $2.2 billion in emergency military aid.

The intervention, which enraged the Arab world, triggered the OPEC oil embargo that for a time wreaked havoc on Western economies. This was perhaps the most dramatic example of the sustained life-support system the United States has provided to the Jewish state.

Israel was born at midnight May 14, 1948. The U.S. recognized the new state 11 minutes later. The two countries have been locked in a deadly embrace ever since."
... ...
"The future is ominous. Not only do Israel’s foreign policy objectives not coincide with American interests, they actively hurt them. The growing belligerence in the Middle East, the calls for an attack against Iran, the collapse of the imperial project in Iraq have all given an opening, where there was none before, to America’s rivals. It is not in Israel’s interests to ignite a regional conflict. It is not in ours. But those who have their hands on the wheel seem determined, in the name of freedom and democracy, to keep the American ship of state headed at breakneck speed into the cliffs before us.

Chris Hedges, who graduated from Harvard Divinity School and was for nearly two decades a foreign correspondent for The New York Times, is the author of “American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America.

Local Czechs against Bush's missiles:

'Bush’s Missile Defense Radar Plan Riles Czechs', by Matthew Schofield:
Published on Monday, July 2, 2007 by the McClatchy Newspapers

"VESIN, Czech Republic - After four decades of Russian domination and the oppressive presence of a nearby Czech military base, villagers in the Brdy region west of Prague got back access to their rolling hills at the end of the Cold War and along with it myriad paths into the thick forests leading to rich patches of wild berries and mushrooms.

That apparently is coming to an end. Not even two decades after one superpower departed the country, another, the United States, this spring announced agreement with the Czech government to set up a base to install U.S. radars for a missile defense system.

There are only about 600 people in this poor but bucolic village in the Brdy district west of Prague, but the view along the cobble-stoned streets is nearly unanimous: they are against the U.S. plan." ... ...

Major strategic change in Afghan for NATO, under new US command:

'Civilian Casualties in Afghanistan No Coincidence', by Ira Chernus

... ...
"So what’s a poor NATO commander to do? American General Dan McNeill, who took control of all NATO forces in Afghanistan this spring, seems to have an answer: Bombs away, and let hearts and minds fall where they may. The spike in civilian deaths from NATO bombs is no coincidence. It reflects a major change in strategy, which has gone totally unreported in the American media.

The British public knows about it. Journalists Jason Burke and Robert Fox think it’s a story the Brits need to know, because it could well put the lives of British — as well as American — NATO troops in greater danger. And it will put British — as well as American — tax dollars to work paying for more bombs that kill more innocent civilians."
